About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healthcare which has been practised in China and the Far East for over 2000 years to restore, promote and maintain good health. It is a safe and effective treatment which is becoming increasingly popular in the West as people find that it can offer an effective solution to many of our modern ailments.

Acupuncture is used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well-being of a patient, as well as treating any specific symptoms. The aim of treatment is to bring the body back to balance (homeostasis) and thereby promote optimal health.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy (known as Qi - pronounced 'chee') moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels which connect to our internal organs. This ensures that the body is properly nourished. The channels can be compared to blood vessels in how they supply oxygen to every cell in our body.

The aim of acupuncture treatment is to promote good health by regulating the flow and quality of Qi. If our Qi is strong, we are able to ward off illness and to enjoy good health and vitality.
