Acupuncture can be used to treat all types of physical and emotional conditions. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well-being of the patient, as well as treating the specific symptoms a patient may have. Patients, therefore, often report an improvement in general well-being such as digestion, sleep patterns, stress and energy levels, as a result of treatment.
Since the 1970s, the World Health Organisation has recognised the ability of acupuncture to treat many common illnesses, including:
Musculo-skeletal conditions: e.g. back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain, tennis elbow, knee problems, arthritis, strains and sprains.
Neurological conditions: e.g. headaches, migraines, dizziness, tinnitus, neuralgia, weakness & paralysis, Bell's palsy, post-stroke symptoms, insomnia.
Digestive problems: e.g. nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, gastric pain, IBS, colic.
Circulatory disorders: e.g. hypertension (high blood pressure), angina, coronary heart disease.
