The initial consultation usually lasts an hour. We start with a detailed discussion of your symptoms and your medical history. Questions about your sleep, diet, digestion and energy levels and examination of your tongue and pulse also help identify any underlying patterns of disharmony so that treatment can be tailored to you as an individual.
The initial consultation also includes your first treatment.
During treatment, very fine, single-use, sterile needles are inserted into specific points on your body. The acupuncture points are not always close to the area where you experience the problem. Points in the foot may be used for headaches for example.
Other techniques such as moxibustion, cupping, electro-acupuncture and massage may be used to supplement treatment. We may also discuss some lifestyle changes, such as diet, exercise and relaxation techniques to help you gain more control over your own health.
Please avoid alcohol and large meals and make sure that you’re not hungry and you have eaten something before treatment.
